Cowboy basketball on the tube

Although basketball season is still down the road a bit, it's never too early to think basketball. UW finalized the men's basketball schedule on Wednesday, while the Mountain West Conference released the television schedule on Tuesday.

The Cowboys will be on the tube 16 times this season -- 15 in MWC play. The long non-conference viewing is Dec. 15 when the 'Pokes travel to Tennessee. The game tips off at 5 p.m. (MDT) on ESPN U.

The Wyoming men are scheduled to be televised in all but one league game -- the Jan. 27 home matchup with Utah.

Here's the UW men's basketball television schedule:
Dec. 15 -- Wyoming at Tennessee, 5 p.m. (ESPN U)
Jan. 6 -- CSU at Wyoming, 6 p.m. (The Mtn.)
Jan. 9 -- SDSU at Wyoming, 4 p.m. (The Mtn.)
Jan. 12 -- Wyoming at TCU, 5:30 p.m. (The Mtn.)
Jan. 16 -- New Mexico at Wyoming, 1:30 p.m. (The Mtn.)
Jan. 20 -- Wyoming at BYU, 6 p.m. (The Mtn.)
Jan. 30 --Wyoming at Air Force, 1:30 p.m. (The Mtn.)
Feb. 3 -- UNLV at Wyoming, 8 p.m. (The Mtn.)
Feb. 6 -- Wyoming at CSU, 7 p.m. (The Mtn.)
Feb. 10 -- Wyoming at SDSU, 8:30 p.m. (The Mtn.)
Feb. 13 -- TCU at Wyoming, 1:30 p.m. (The Mtn.)
Feb. 17 -- Wyoming at New Mexico, 7 p.m. (CBS College Sports)
Feb. 27 -- Wyoming at Utah, 4 p.m. (The Mtn.)
March 2 -- Air Force at Wyoming, 7:30 p.m. (The Mtn.)
March 6 -- Wyoming at UNLV, 2 p.m. (Versus).

Just a little note: Versus is still off of DIRECTV, so you might want to make other plans to watch the Cowboys on March 6.

Also, the Wyoming football game at Colorado on Saturday is on FOX College Sports. In the state of Wyoming, the telecast will be available through Bresnan Cable’s Sports Entertainment Package. For DIRECTV customers, it will be on Channel 617. It won’t be televised on FOX Sports Rocky Mountain.

Thanks for the memories

As I put my watch up to my ear, I expect to hear click, click, click, as each second moves forward. Kind of like my current days as a sportswriter ... click, click, click. Chargers sign Vinnedge, Betschart

No Wyoming football players were drafted over the weekend in the NFL Draft, but a pair of former Cowboys will try to stick with the San Diego Chargers. Punter Billy Vinnedge and tight end/H-back Wade Betschart both signed free agent contracts Sunday with the Chargers. As of Sunday night, they were the lone former Cowboys to sign with a NFL team. Cornerbacks Michael Medina and Julius Stinson are waiting for that opportunity. Vinnedge and Betschart join former Cowboys, wide receiver Malcom Floyd and quarterback Casey Bramlet, on the San Diego roster. Bramlet was picked up last week, likely as a "camp arm." Other former Cowboys currently on NFL rosters include kicker Aaron Elling (Cincinnati), cornerback Derrick Martin (Baltimore), offensive lineman Adam Goldberg (St. Louis), linebacker Patrick Chukwurah (Tampa Bay) and safety John Wendling and defensive lineman Corey Mace (both of Buffalo).

Sam & Me

On more than one occasion, my wife has said that I should write a book about my dog, Sam. I wrote about Sam in April on Wyoming Sports.org and here's an updated version for those new to my blog. Check to the right of the page (under my profile) and you'll see his picture, with the heading, "Sam the dog, the guardian of all that is good." It probably should read, "Sam the dog, the guardian of all that drives my wife crazy." Now, don't get me wrong. Teresa loves Sam. He just drives her crazy. It's probably my fault. Many of his bad habits can probably be traced back to me. I let him sleep in the bedroom with us and he likes to begin his night by laying by Teresa's side of the bed. In case you haven't seen the picture of Sam, he's a black lab. A quick jump out of bed in the middle of night is dangerous and often not suitable for children to hear. Of course, Sam is spoiled.
