Where are we, Seattle?
Hey batter, batter; swing batter, batter ....
Typical baseball talk for youngsters. I used to say it; you used to say it. Maybe not so much for the Rangers or Colts. At least I hope they aren't telling the opposing pitcher that he has a rubber arm.
These days, though, what is being said on the baseball diamonds are more like this: Rain, rain, go away, come back again some other day...
Mother Nature has been playing havoc on local baseball these days, whether it is for scheduled games for Laramie Youth Baseball, American Legion or the Mountain Collegiate Baseball League.
Well, at least the grass is green.
For those who have been in Laramie or the area a long time, the month of June has certainly been a little different weather-wise. Rain is not uncommon, but every day ... that just isn't normal.
The Colts have especially been hit hard, with five games either postponed or suspended and almost every other game affected by the weather. In fact, going into Saturday's doubleheader at Greeley (scheduled a DH because of a prior postponement), only the season opener at Cheyenne was not hit with a weather delay.
Through Friday, the Fort Collins Foxes had six games nixed by the weather.
Colts manager Ryan Goodwin, in his third season at the helm, has been telling his players who are new to the area (most of them) that this is not normal. Right now, they're not believing him.
No word yet if Saturday's games at Greeley have been "weatherized." There were severe thunderstorm warnings in the area earlier, including the Denver metro area where the Rockies had their game with Seattle delayed 42 minutes at the start because of rain.
I'm still confident that once we finally get out of this wet weather, it probably won't rain again until September.
Then it will snow.
***
The Rangers AA team has had its doubleheader originally scheduled for Sunday at Green River canceled -- not because of weather, but because the Knights also scheduled themselves to play in a weekend tournament.
Whoops.
There will be no makeup and Laramie will still head over to Sweetwater County for a Monday doubleheader in Rock Springs that will start at 2 p.m.
The AA Rangers, who haven't played since June 7, will see plenty of action after the Rock Springs trip, going to Rapid City next weekend for a tournament, before hosting Casper on June 23 and then two straight weekends of tournaments at Cowboy Field -- the Dooley Oil Classic June 25-28 and the annual Firecracker Invitational, July 2-5.
Hopefully, it stops raining by then.
