The best job ever: Congressional softball reporter
I might have found my ultimate job. This is listed on JournalismJobs. com website:
Description: Softball Reporter
Roll Call seeks an energetic reporter/blogger for a three-month, part-time (10 hours/week) position covering Capitol Hill’s summer softball season for RollCall.com’s new softball Web site. The successful candidate will have: experience in and around the Congressional, House and/or Senate softball leagues; news reporting experience, preferably sports-related; an engaging writing style; and the flexibility to work evening hours. Send or fax resume with cover letter, and writing samples to: Roll Call Inc., Attn: HR Dept., 50 F Street, NW, 7th Floor, Washington, DC 20001 or fax: 202/824-0475 or e-mail hr@rollcall.com. No phone calls please. EOE.
I think this would be worth checking out. After all, the pay could come from the recent stimulus package. Salary: $1.2 million.
Nancy Pelosi will pick the team for the Congressional Dems, with Eric Cantor picking for the Republicans. Harry Reid picks for the Senatorial Dems and Mitch McConnell for the Republicans.
Al Franken found an addtional 32,000 votes in Brainerd, Minn., and demands to be declared the winner and automatically inserted into the Senate Democrats starting lineup. He can't play after 8 p.m., though, because of poor vision.
I guess now we know why Arlen Specter really moved over to the Democrats. He's their ringer. He may be old, but he still has good range at second base.
Of course, in this softball league, they don't keep score, so there are no winners or losers. Congressional Pages are required to pinch run, and if under 18, do massages.
Bill O'Reilly and Keith Olberman will do the game broadcasts. Because of higher ratings, the games will only be televised live on FOX News, with replays on MSNBC and CNN after midnight. Telemundo will get the Spanish rights and National Public Radio is negotiating for the radio rights on Sirius and XM.
ESPN declined to bid on the television or radio rights, as all of its reporters have been sent to Mississippi or Minnesota to work on the Brett Favre un-retirement story.
To apply for the reporting job, all applicants are required to be a member of the Congressional Softball Union or Acorn or not pay any taxes.
Oh well, there's always next season.
