The Mtn. to air basketball reviews

With the conclusion of the NCAA title games for the men and women, the college basketball season is officially over.

You're not done with college basketball, you say. If you still need a little college basketball fix, you can turn to the MountainWest Sports Network, as it airs the 2008-09 men’s and women’s basketball season review shows. The programs begin at noon on Saturday, with six of the nine shows airing, with the remaining three broadcasts slated for April 16. Each show will re-air several times through April.

The Wyoming review (Cowboys and Cowgirls) will air Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Hosted by network anchors Marius Payton and Bill Doleman, along with with analysis provided by Larry Mangino and Marty Fletcher, each 30-minute program combines the men’s and women’s teams and features great moments and highlights for the nine member institutions. Interviews with coaches and student-athletes comprise key elements of each show.

Thanks for the memories

As I put my watch up to my ear, I expect to hear click, click, click, as each second moves forward. Kind of like my current days as a sportswriter ... click, click, click. For some reason, though, the watch is silent as it continues time. Again, kind of like my current days of operating Wyoming Sports.org. Yikes, cliche' overload here. The simple fact is my sports website is probably on its last leg. I say probably because in two weeks I will begin a new job as news copy editor/designer for the Wyoming Tribune Eagle in Cheyenne. Not only will I not have the time to cover local sporting events in Laramie, I can see my new employers likely not wanting me to compete against the WTE's fine sports staff. It makes perfect sense and I totally understand. When the position opened a while back, with my wife's blessing and encouragement, I decided to apply for the job. Chargers sign Vinnedge, Betschart

No Wyoming football players were drafted over the weekend in the NFL Draft, but a pair of former Cowboys will try to stick with the San Diego Chargers. Punter Billy Vinnedge and tight end/H-back Wade Betschart both signed free agent contracts Sunday with the Chargers. As of Sunday night, they were the lone former Cowboys to sign with a NFL team. Cornerbacks Michael Medina and Julius Stinson are waiting for that opportunity. Vinnedge and Betschart join former Cowboys, wide receiver Malcom Floyd and quarterback Casey Bramlet, on the San Diego roster. Bramlet was picked up last week, likely as a "camp arm." Other former Cowboys currently on NFL rosters include kicker Aaron Elling (Cincinnati), cornerback Derrick Martin (Baltimore), offensive lineman Adam Goldberg (St. Louis), linebacker Patrick Chukwurah (Tampa Bay) and safety John Wendling and defensive lineman Corey Mace (both of Buffalo).

Sam & Me

On more than one occasion, my wife has said that I should write a book about my dog, Sam. I wrote about Sam in April on Wyoming Sports.org and here's an updated version for those new to my blog. Check to the right of the page (under my profile) and you'll see his picture, with the heading, "Sam the dog, the guardian of all that is good." It probably should read, "Sam the dog, the guardian of all that drives my wife crazy." Now, don't get me wrong. Teresa loves Sam. He just drives her crazy. It's probably my fault. Many of his bad habits can probably be traced back to me. I let him sleep in the bedroom with us and he likes to begin his night by laying by Teresa's side of the bed. In case you haven't seen the picture of Sam, he's a black lab. A quick jump out of bed in the middle of night is dangerous and often not suitable for children to hear. Of course, Sam is spoiled.
