Low times in Boulder
Oh, to be a fly on the wall at the Blake Street Tavern on Friday morning.
Actually, that's probably not a good thing to have flies in a restaurant. Nevertheless, it might have been worth the $17 cover charge to have breakfast with Colorado men's basketball coach Jeff Bzdelik for the Denver Buff Club sponsored event.
For a little refresher, CU basketball, under the former Air Force head coach (he's also assisted by former UW coach Steve McClain) is ... well, how do I put this ... struggling, to say the least.
The Buffs, who host Texas on Saturday, are 1-8 in the Big 12 and 9-14 overall after an embarrassing 70-42 road loss to Iowa State on Wednesday. It gets worse. Iowa State scored 21 straight points in the first half and led 37-9 at halftime. Nine points in 20 minutes. CU is now in last place in the Big 12. Iowa State is now tied with Texas Tech for 10th place.
It "was a blur, a bad dream. It was horrible," said CUs Dwight Thorne II, who scored all nine points in the first half. "We just weren't ready to play."
Ya think.
Oh well, for CU fans, there's always the next game to look forward to -- Texas.
"It's about moving forward and understanding why this happened," Bzdelik said.
For CU fans' sake, let's hope Bzdelik understands by Saturday.
