Name this picture


I've been holding off on this picture for a couple of weeks, partially because I did kind of forget about it, but also because I've been trying to come up with a funny catch-phrase.

This was taken a couple of weeks back at Deti Stadium for a Plainsmen football game. I'm sorry, I don't mean to make fun of whoever did this. In fact, when I was in college, I had a part-time job of chalking the foul lines for the city softball league. I heard about it every night. But I'll steal a line from Larry the Cable Guy: "I don't care who you are, that's funny right there."

Being the smart ass that I can be, I want to come up with something funny like - work, happy hour, work. Like I said, I can be somewhat of a smart ass (sorry about the language). When I was a kid, my dad once said to me, "quit being a smart ass." Of course, my response was, "better being a smart ass than a dumb ass." That probably wasn't the smart thing to say, but knowing my dad, he probably laughed inside.

Thanks for the memories

As I put my watch up to my ear, I expect to hear click, click, click, as each second moves forward. Kind of like my current days as a sportswriter ... click, click, click. Chargers sign Vinnedge, Betschart

No Wyoming football players were drafted over the weekend in the NFL Draft, but a pair of former Cowboys will try to stick with the San Diego Chargers. Punter Billy Vinnedge and tight end/H-back Wade Betschart both signed free agent contracts Sunday with the Chargers. As of Sunday night, they were the lone former Cowboys to sign with a NFL team. Cornerbacks Michael Medina and Julius Stinson are waiting for that opportunity. Vinnedge and Betschart join former Cowboys, wide receiver Malcom Floyd and quarterback Casey Bramlet, on the San Diego roster. Bramlet was picked up last week, likely as a "camp arm." Other former Cowboys currently on NFL rosters include kicker Aaron Elling (Cincinnati), cornerback Derrick Martin (Baltimore), offensive lineman Adam Goldberg (St. Louis), linebacker Patrick Chukwurah (Tampa Bay) and safety John Wendling and defensive lineman Corey Mace (both of Buffalo).

Do fired NFL coaches still get paid?

The first Monday after the end of the regular season in the NFL is accurately labeled Black Monday. Less than a week after Christmas, it's when the axes fall on several head coaches. Bah humbug!!! As of this writing, three NFL coaches -- Eric Mangini of the New York Jets, Romeo Crennel of the Cleveland Browns and Rod Marinelli of the Detroit Lions -- will be filing their unemployment papers any day now. Actually, that makes me wonder. Do fired professional coaches file for unemployment compensation? Are they actually listed on the national unemployment statistics? I wonder what the fired coaches bi-weekly unemployment checks will be? I'll bet it is more than $330 a week. I blame it on the economy. Forget the fact that the Lions went 0-16 this season. Remember, Detroit is home of the automaker. Forget the fact that Brett's Jets were once 8-3, but lost four of its last five games.
