Saturday's wake up call
It's Saturday morning, so before I actually wake up and make sense, here's some thoughts.
It was a tough, tough night for the Plainsmen. Head coach Bob Knapton called it a horrible night. It was both and then some.
Scottsbluff seemed to have the Laramie offense figured out from the start and dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. As Knapton said, the Plainsmen "couldn't block nobody and couldn't tackle nobody." That pretty much summed up the game.
Laramie will have to battle back as it returns to league play next Friday at Evanston. The good news is the Red Devils are struggling as well (0-3). something will have to give.
It was a crazy night in 5A football. Sheridan just hammered -- and I mean hammered rival Gillette 49-21. You might see the Broncs getting some support for No. 1 this week. The state is up in the air with no unbeatens.
Natrona also blasted No. 3 East 47-7. Check out the complete state scoreboard on WyoPreps.com: http://www.wyopreps.com/news/scoreboard/
What will the Cowboys do today? I've heard several times this week that this could be a make or break game for Wyoming when it hosts Bowling Green. Of course, it is a non-conference game, but the Cowboys need a win, to say the least. Sitting at 2-2, Wyoming needs some momentum as it returns to MWC play with road games at New Mexico and TCU, sandwiched with a home contest with a very good Utah team. A little "MO" will go a long way if UW has any thoughts of finishing strong and getting to a bowl game.
The million dollar question, though, is will the Cowboys ever get untracked offensively? Again, stay tuned to today's game. Head coach Joe Glenn has hinted that there will be a few changes made that fans will enjoy. Look for Darius Terry to get some added time at running back and Glenn even said that all three backs -- Terry, Devin Moore and Wynel Seldon -- could be in the backfield at once. Me thinks something is in store, like Moore under center in the shotgun? That's just a guess, mind you, so we'll have to wait and see.
Finally, it is a nervous time in the Anderson household this weekend (OK, just me) as the Twins fight for a MLB playoff spot. Leading the White Sox by one-half game with three to go, the Twins tanked Friday night against Kansas City. Luckily, so did the Sox against the Indians. It's back to square one again today.
My cell phone is going to get a workout this afternoon, that's for sure.
Regardless, it's been a great ride for the small-market Twins. No one, and I mean no one, gave them a chance to even contend this year after trading Johan Santana and losing Torri Hunter to free agency. But the Twins are fighters, up and down their lineup and in their dugout, and when you do that, anything is possible.
Well, a busy day is in store. First it is the 'Pokes Pregame Show for two hours on KOWB, the football game and then the alumni basketball game. I guess I have a little work ahead of me.
Time to wake up.
