Ewing earns more honors

Cowboy senior Brandon Ewing received yet another honor earlier this week as he was was selected as a Collegehoops.net Honorable Mention All-American, among high-major schools. He received the same honor from Collegehoops.net during the preseason.

Collegehoops.net’s high-major classification is comprised of six conferences: the Atlantic-10, Conference USA, the Missouri Valley, the Mountain West, the WAC and the West Coast Conference.

Ewing led the Mountain West Conference in both scoring and assists this past season with 18.5 points and 5.03 assists per game, the first player in league history to lead both categories. He also became the first player to lead the league in scoring three times, as he was also the MWC’s leading scorer as a sophomore and junior. Ewing ended his senior season ranked 49th in the nation in scoring and 37th in assists.

Prior to the 2009 MWC Championships, Ewing was named first team All-MWC by the league’s head coaches and media. With that honor, he became the first player in MWC history to earn all-conference honors four times. Ewing has also been named Second Team All-District 17 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and All-District VIII by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.

Ewing ended his career at Wyoming ranked among the top-10 career leaders in 12 different statistical categories. In addition to scoring the second most points in Wyoming history (2,168), Ewing is UW’s career leader in free throws made (697) , free throws attempted (855), three-pointers made (193), three-pointers attempted (594) and games started (125). He also ranks second in assists (471), third in steals (161), third in attempted field goals (1,464) and sixth in made field goals (639).

Ewing is currently participating in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament in Portsmouth, Va. In his first game of the tournament, Ewing scored 13 points and had six assists as his Tidewater Sealants lost to the Portsmouth Partnership 90-80 on Wednesday, then scored just three points in three minutes on Thursday, apparently suffering an injury. He did not play in the Selants consolation game on Friday.
