Cowboy 2009 schedule fan friendly
The University of Wyoming athletics department is calling it the greatest schedule in UW football history. It's hard to argue.
The Cowboys will host No. 3 Texas, travel to Boulder to face Colorado and also host two other Top 25 programs from last season -- TCU and BYU.
In other interesting notes about the schedule:
•Wyoming’s 2009 schedule will mark the first time since 2003 that the Cowboys have played two Big 12 opponents in the same season. UW lost at Oklahoma State 28-24 and lost at home to Kansas 42-35 during the 2003 season.
•The Cowboys will be playing Colorado for the first time since 1997, when UW lost a 20-19 game in Boulder. That game later had to be forfeited by the Buffaloes due to playing an ineligible player.
•The game versus Texas will be the first of a three-game football series between UW and UT beginning in 2009. After opening the three-game series in Laramie in ‘09, Wyoming will travel to Austin, Texas, twice for road games on Sept. 11, 2010, and Sept. 1, 2012.
•Florida Atlantic is coached by former Oklahoma, Louisville and Miami (Fla.) head coach Howard Schnellenberger. The Owls are coming off consecutive bowl victories the past two seasons. They defeated Central Michigan in the 2008 Motor City Bowl by a score of 24-20 and defeated Memphis in the 2007 New Orleans Bowl by a score of 44-27. Florida Atlantic is a member of the Sun Belt Conference.
•Weber State was one of the top programs at the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level last season. The Wildcats finished the season with a 10-4 record and were ranked No. 7 in the final Sports Network FCS Rankings and were ranked No. 9 in the final FCS Coaches’ Poll. Weber State is coached by former Utah head coach Ron McBride.
•Not only does the 2009 Cowboy schedule feature six home games, but Wyoming fans will have the opportunity to drive to three road games against Front Range rivals in 2009. In addition to Mountain West Conference games at Air Force and at Colorado State, the Cowboys will travel to Boulder to face Colorado on Sept. 19.
•Season tickets are on sale now for the 2009 season. According to the UW athletics department, Cowboy fans are encouraged to purchase season tickets online at www.WyomingAthletics.com. One of the best incentives for purchasing online is a big offer from the Cowboy Joe Club. The CJC is offering members five priority points for renewing online. The cost of a season ticket for the 2009 season is $168. UW faculty and staff season tickets are $140 each. Fans may also purchase a season-ticket Family Plan. Each season ticket in a Family Plan sells for $100 with a required minimum purchase of four tickets for a total of $400 for a Family Plan of four season tickets.
