Thanks for the memories

As I put my watch up to my ear, I expect to hear click, click, click, as each second moves forward. Kind of like my current days as a sportswriter ... click, click, click. For some reason, though, the watch is silent as it continues time. Again, kind of like my current days of operating Wyoming Sports.org. Yikes, cliche' overload here. The simple fact is my sports website is probably on its last leg. I say probably because in two weeks I will begin a new job as news copy editor/designer for the Wyoming Tribune Eagle in Cheyenne. Not only will I not have the time to cover local sporting events in Laramie, I can see my new employers likely not wanting me to compete against the WTE's fine sports staff. It makes perfect sense and I totally understand. When the position opened a while back, with my wife's blessing and encouragement, I decided to apply for the job. New Cowgirls basketball website launched

The Cowgirl basketball program is now reaching out via the worldwide web. I just stumbled across this on Tuesday and evidently it was just launched on Sunday. The Cowgirls have their own website, which is not connected to the athletics department. Check it out at www.cowgirlbasketball.com . The site features rosters of the players and coaches and their schedule and results, along with other activities in a very modern and professional way. My guess is that it was creates as another way to reach out to prospective recruits, as well as young fans. It will be interesting to see how the site progresses in the future. Regardless, it's a nice site that I'm sure all of the UW athletic programs might look at as well.

First half summary

The Wyoming offense looked good early, scoring on its first possession, highlighted by a 44-yard touchdown run by true freshman Alevester Alexander -- on his first carry as a Cowboy. Weber State then countered on a 40-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Cameron Higgins to Tim Toone , who got behind the Wyoming secondary in the right corner of the end zone. While junior quarterback Robert Benjamin showed the ability to move the ball (6 of 8 passing for 66 yards, 3 rushes 19 yards), Wyoming coach Dave Christensen went with true freshman Austyn Carta-Samuels in the second quarter. Mistakes have hurt both teams in the first half and the Cowboys are taking advantage of the Weber State miscues. Early on, the Cowboys lost a chance to maintain a nice drive with a holding penalty, then lost the ball on a fumble after a nice drive. The Cowboys then missed out on a chance for a touchdown after being forced to a field goal after first and goal on the 3-yard line. A procedure penalty pushed UW...
