Missouri games bumped back to 2017, 2018
The University of Wyoming and University of Missouri announced on Thursday that their two-game football series, which was originally scheduled for 2011 (in Columbia, Mo.) and 2012 (in Laramie) has been pushed back to 2017 (in Columbia) and 2018 (in Laramie).
After completion of the original contract with Missouri, Wyoming was able to negotiate a three-game contract with Nebraska that was announced this past December. For Wyoming, moving the Missouri games back to 2017 and 2018 helps balance a schedule that would have included both Nebraska and Missouri on the 2011 schedule. Missouri and Wyoming have never played each other in football. The Cowboys will play the Tigers in Columbia, Mo., on Sept. 9, 2017, in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The Tigers will return to Laramie on Sept. 8, 2018.
The three-game series between the Cowboys and Huskers will kick off in Laramie on Sept. 24, 2011. The second and third games in the series are to be played in Lincoln, Neb., on Aug. 31, 2013, and Sept. 17, 2016. Nebraska’s trip to Wyoming in 2011 will be the first appearance ever by the Huskers in Laramie.
“We are thrilled to be playing Big 12 programs the caliber of Missouri, Nebraska and Texas in Laramie in coming years,” said Tom Burman, University of Wyoming Athletics Director. “At the same time, we want to allow our new head coach Dave Christensen and his team an opportunity to build a program that will compete for conference championships and postseason play. We felt it was best to move the Missouri series off of the 2011 and 2012 schedules, and we thank the University of Missouri for agreeing to this change.”
Wyoming’s 2011 schedule will now feature home games against Weber State and Nebraska and a road game at Boise State, with one non-conference date yet to fill with the move of the Missouri game to 2017. The 2012 Cowboy schedule will include a home game against Toledo and road games at Texas and at Idaho, with one non-conference date yet to fill with the move of the Missouri game to 2018.
The Cowboys will play two Big 12 opponents this coming season as they begin a three-game series with the Texas Longhorns on Sept. 12, 2009 in Laramie. UW will also travel to Boulder, Colo., on Sept. 19 of this year to face the Colorado Buffaloes in what is a single-game contract.
Wyoming’s future non-conference football schedules follow.
