CowboyBlitz.com building steam

As many of you know, the last year and a half I have been away from the newspaper business. I've done a little of this and a little of that, which translates into Wyoming Sports.org, freelancing for other publications, including the Associated Press, and now on the radio with Sportsline Live.

Well, there will be a little more of this and that in the future, as I will also be helping out on the Scout.com Internet site, CowboyBlitz.com. The site had been a little dormant for the past year with no real local UW coverage. That is beginning to change with a new publisher.

The goal is to get CowboyBlitz.com on its feet as one of the top sites for Wyoming coverage. I'll try to help out with the local coverage and maybe in the future branch out with some recruiting stories.

Now, that doesn't mean I won't still be on Sportsline Live or continue to operate Wyoming Sports.org. Both will still be in the cards. What you will likely see on Wyoming Sports.org, as far as UW coverage, will be the same as in the past, only some of the coverage posted will be links directly to CowboyBlitz.com.

I encourage you to check out CowboyBlitz.com in the upcoming weeks as it builds some momentum. Look for an easy access tab for the site on Wyoming Sports.org as well in the future.

Thanks for the memories

As I put my watch up to my ear, I expect to hear click, click, click, as each second moves forward. Kind of like my current days as a sportswriter ... click, click, click. The simple fact is my sports website is probably on its last leg. I say probably because in two weeks I will begin a new job as news copy editor/designer for the Wyoming Tribune Eagle in Cheyenne. Not only will I not have the time to cover local sporting events in Laramie, I can see my new employers likely not wanting me to compete against the WTE's fine sports staff. Chargers sign Vinnedge, Betschart

No Wyoming football players were drafted over the weekend in the NFL Draft, but a pair of former Cowboys will try to stick with the San Diego Chargers. Punter Billy Vinnedge and tight end/H-back Wade Betschart both signed free agent contracts Sunday with the Chargers. As of Sunday night, they were the lone former Cowboys to sign with a NFL team. Cornerbacks Michael Medina and Julius Stinson are waiting for that opportunity. Vinnedge and Betschart join former Cowboys, wide receiver Malcom Floyd and quarterback Casey Bramlet, on the San Diego roster. Bramlet was picked up last week, likely as a "camp arm." Other former Cowboys currently on NFL rosters include kicker Aaron Elling (Cincinnati), cornerback Derrick Martin (Baltimore), offensive lineman Adam Goldberg (St. Louis), linebacker Patrick Chukwurah (Tampa Bay) and safety John Wendling and defensive lineman Corey Mace (both of Buffalo).

Sam & Me

On more than one occasion, my wife has said that I should write a book about my dog, Sam. I wrote about Sam in April on Wyoming Sports.org and here's an updated version for those new to my blog. Check to the right of the page (under my profile) and you'll see his picture, with the heading, "Sam the dog, the guardian of all that is good." It probably should read, "Sam the dog, the guardian of all that drives my wife crazy." Now, don't get me wrong. Teresa loves Sam. He just drives her crazy. It's probably my fault. Many of his bad habits can probably be traced back to me. I let him sleep in the bedroom with us and he likes to begin his night by laying by Teresa's side of the bed. In case you haven't seen the picture of Sam, he's a black lab. A quick jump out of bed in the middle of night is dangerous and often not suitable for children to hear. Of course, Sam is spoiled.
