Thanks for the memories

As I put my watch up to my ear, I expect to hear click, click, click, as each second moves forward. Kind of like my current days as a sportswriter ... click, click, click. For some reason, though, the watch is silent as it continues time. Again, kind of like my current days of operating Wyoming Sports.org. Yikes, cliche' overload here. The simple fact is my sports website is probably on its last leg. I say probably because in two weeks I will begin a new job as news copy editor/designer for the Wyoming Tribune Eagle in Cheyenne. Not only will I not have the time to cover local sporting events in Laramie, I can see my new employers likely not wanting me to compete against the WTE's fine sports staff. It makes perfect sense and I totally understand. When the position opened a while back, with my wife's blessing and encouragement, I decided to apply for the job. Central night at Goodell Gymnasium

It was Rapid City Central girls’ basketball night Thursday at the King Center as Metro State Denver faced South Dakota Mines in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women’s basketball in the King Center. The Roadrunners were represented by 2021 Central graduate Jordon Heckert and 2018 graduate Mya Jones. The Hardrockers countered with 2019 Central graduate Bailey Johnson. Jones and Johnson were teammates at Casper College. Heckert scored four points and grabbed two rebounds for the Roadrunners Thursday night. She has appeared in nine games this season, averaging 3.7 points a game . Jones scored two points against SD Mines in the win. Jones has played 16 games for the 17-5 Roadrunners, starting five games, averaging 5.9 points and 4.1 points a game. Johnson scored four points and grabbed four rebounds against Metro State. Johnson has appeared in 20 games, starting 16, averaging 8.8 points a game for the 'Rockers. If not for an injury that has sidelined her all season, 20...

Mr. Thompson goes to Washington

No, this is not a remake of Jimmy Stewart's 1939 classic movie, "Mr. Smith goes to Washington." Mr. Thompson is Mountain West Conference commissioner Craig Thompson, who spent Thursday and Friday pleading his case that the current BCS football playoff system ... well, kind of sucks. The only problem is Congress is not in session. Evidently, they are on the President Obama World Tour drumming up support for the porkulus bill ... uh, I mean stimulus bill that was signed earlier in the week. Thompson is spreading the word to people who will spread the word to Congress when their travel expenses run out and they have to return to Washington. You have to give Thompson an A for effort. At least he is trying to get something done. Unfortunately, he's probably barking up the wrong tree. Putting the BCS in the hands of Congress is like having your alcoholic friend watch a six-pack of Bud Lite for you that you are anxiously looking forward to at the end of the day. I'd...
