Cowboys go inside

It took just one and a half practices for the Wyoming Cowboys to head to the Indoor Practice Facility. It certainly wasn't too cold or wet or windy, but there was a little too much electricity in the air for the Wyoming coaching staff to take any chances.
A lightning and thunderstorm had been approaching from the north for much of the first hour of practice before one hit came a little too close for comfort at about 4:10 p.m.

The Cowboys finished the day in the IPF as lightning was seen for much of the time still striking to the north.

The Mountain West Conference issued a press release on Tuesday encouraging fans, media and institutional personnel to check out some videos to increase their knowledge for the upcoming season, particularly with rule changes.

There are several rules adjustments for the 2008 season, including changes addressing helmet contact, facemask penalties, players who target a defenseless opponent, horse collar tackling and chop blocks. These rules were approved to help ensure student-athlete safety.

Recommendations dealing with pace-of-play were also approved. A 40/25 second play clock system will be used in an effort to standardize game flow. Sideline control is also a point of emphasis for 2008. For more details regarding the 2008 football rules changes, click here.

From this page, fans can also watch the NCAA's 2008 Football Officiating Points of Emphasis Video, as well as an overview of rules changes video compiled by the MWC's Coordinator of Football Officials, Ken Rivera.
