Lady Plainsmen, Plainsmen in title games

History is just a shot or two away for the Laramie High School soccer teams. Both the Plainsmen and Lady Plainsmen are playing for the Wyoming state soccer championships Saturday at the UW Soccer Stadium.

The Laramie Lady Plainsmen continued their solid play Friday to advance to the title game by dumping Casper Natrona 4-0 in the semifinals and will face Cheyenne East in Saturday's finals. East edged crosstown rival Cheyenne Central 2-1 in the other semi.

The Laramie-East matchup will begin at 2 p.m.

The Lady Plainsmen, now 15-1-0, have outscored their opponents 10-0 in the two state games, beating Rock Springs 6-0 on Thursday.

The Plainsmen, 14-1-2, earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over rival Cheyenne Central on Friday and will face second-ranked Casper Kelly Walsh at 4 p.m. on Saturday in the title game. Kelly Walsh beat Cheyenne East 4-1 in the other semifinal game on Friday.

Two wins by the Laramie teams would mark the first time both schools have won state soccer titles in the same year. The Lady Plainsmen are also seeking their first championship. The Plainsmen won their lone title in 2000.
