I can't remember if I forgot

I'm not sure where I was on April 14 when it was announced that the Las Vegas Bowl would become the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas.

For the life of me, I can't remember if I knew about the name change and new sponsor and I just can't remember. Maybe I was busy (unlikely) and just didn't hear about it.

I'm thinking that forgetfulness is probably sneaking up on me like my ever-expanding waistline. Heck, I forgot my physical therapy for my aching back on Friday, and all I need to remind myself of those aches and pains is just getting up from sitting down.

At any rate, the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas announced an extension with the Mountain West Conference winner and a team from the Pac-10 Conference. Here's the link to the MWC story if you would like to read more.

The MAACO Bowl Las Vegas is scheduled for Dec. 22. Somebody needs to remind me before the game.

Thanks for the memories

As I put my watch up to my ear, I expect to hear click, click, click, as each second moves forward. Kind of like my current days as a sportswriter ... click, click, click. Chargers sign Vinnedge, Betschart

No Wyoming football players were drafted over the weekend in the NFL Draft, but a pair of former Cowboys will try to stick with the San Diego Chargers. Punter Billy Vinnedge and tight end/H-back Wade Betschart both signed free agent contracts Sunday with the Chargers. As of Sunday night, they were the lone former Cowboys to sign with a NFL team. Cornerbacks Michael Medina and Julius Stinson are waiting for that opportunity. Vinnedge and Betschart join former Cowboys, wide receiver Malcom Floyd and quarterback Casey Bramlet, on the San Diego roster. Bramlet was picked up last week, likely as a "camp arm." Other former Cowboys currently on NFL rosters include kicker Aaron Elling (Cincinnati), cornerback Derrick Martin (Baltimore), offensive lineman Adam Goldberg (St. Louis), linebacker Patrick Chukwurah (Tampa Bay) and safety John Wendling and defensive lineman Corey Mace (both of Buffalo).

Winter sports at LHS under way

There seems to be a little irony in the air. Just as the winter sports seasons begin for Laramie High School, it's gorgeous outside. I'd be willing to bet that some of the fall sports teams, such as football, cross country and even golf, would like to have been practicing in days such as Monday and today. It's been a good month since the state golf tournament. Nevertheless, the basketball has been bouncing at will in Plainsman Gym as Jason Mountain gets his boys' team ready and Rod T yson begins his first season as Lady Plainsmen head coach. After all, it is basketball season. It just doesn't feel like it -- yet. In a couple of days, though, we'll be glad that the winter sports (minus Nordic and alpine skiing) are inside. Also hard at work now is Brad Edmunds and his wrestling crew, with Tom Hudson still on a little fiesta (for Hudson) before he begins his boys' swim practices.
