Fletcher on Lombardi Award watchlist

Thirteen Mountain West Conference student-athletes, including Wyoming senior defensive tackle John Fletcher, are among the 153 individuals named to the 40th annual Rotary Lombardi Award watch list.

Also named to the list from the MWC were Air Force's Nick Charles, Colorado State's Shelley Smith, New Mexico's Erik Cook, TCU's Marshall Newhouse and Utah's Zane Beadles are among the offensive lineman competing for the honors, while BYU's Jan Jorgensen, TCU's Jerry Hughes and Utah's Koa Misi represent the MWC candidates on the defensive line. Linebackers Daryl Washington (TCU), Jason Beauchamp (UNLV) and Stevenson Sylvester (Utah) are also on the list, as is BYU tight end Dennis Pitta.

Beadles is the stepson of Wyoming women's basketball coach Joe Legerski.

The 40th annual Rotary Lombardi Award, presented by Houston's Rotary Club, honors the top lineman in the Football Bowl Subdivision. A list of, semifinalists will be released on Oct. 14, with four finalists announced on Nov. 11. All of the finalists will travel to Houston for the ceremony to announce the winner on December, at the Hilton Americas.

Any Football Bowl Subdivision player who meets the basic award criteria - a down lineman on either side of the ball, including tight ends, and linebackers who line up within five yards of the ball - is eligible for consideration from the Rotary Lombardi Selection Committee. This committee is comprised of more than 500 members, including all past winners and finalists, all Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. The Rotary Lombardi Watch List, intended as a reference tool for the Selection Committee, will be periodically updated and revised through the conclusion of the voting to determine the, semifinalists for 2009.
